Andrew Jackson: The Iconic Anti-Jackson "King Andrew" Broadside. Many times pictured, this is one of the rarest political broadsides with probably not more than a half dozen know examples. This one is probably unimprovable, with full borders, and only the slightest light toning. This is the U.I. "Chick" Harris example, purchased by Tom Huston when that legendary collection went to auction some twenty years ago.
One of the earliest American political cartoon broadsides, it was published circa 1832. Jackson is shown in royal attire, a scepter in one hand, and a veto slip in the other. He stands atop tattered pieces of the U.S. Constitution and the legend "Internal Improvements of the U.S. Bank". Jackson's celebrated stance against the Bank of the United States was one of the great political confrontations in American history. Historical importance, great graphics, and rarity combine to make this one of the most sought after of all political display items.
Examples are almost never seen on the market. Most are deeply ensconced in major collections. Heritage did arrange the private placement of one several years ago at a price of $35,000. Dimensions are 27 3/4" x 12". Selections from the Collection of Tom Charles Huston.
