One of a limited edition of 85 bound presentation copies, (6 x 9.25 in.; 152 x 235 mm.), specially bound in gilt lined red calf with U.S. seal on cover and initials J.T.P. (Janet Travell Powell) lower right. Gilt page edges, marbled endpapers. Jacqueline Kennedy has inscribed in blue ink on the front flyleaf, "For Dr. Travell - The President was going to give you this for Christmas. Please accept it now from me. With deep appreciation Jacqueline Kennedy, December 1963". Comes with a "Mrs. Kennedy" embossed (3.4 x 2.25 in.; 86 x 57 mm.) calling card with White House envelope on which is written by an unknown hand in black ink, "Dr. Janet Travell Powell". Slight rubbing with mild sunning to spine. Very fine. Housed in a box with matching marbled papers. Janet Travell Powell (1901-1997) was President Kennedy's personal physician and was famous for prescribing a rocking chair for Kennedy's chronic back pain.
