    Description

Lewis Cass: An Extremely Rare 1848 Silk Campaign Ribbon.
Cass has always been considered the toughest mid-19th century candidate, and his ribbons rank with Pierce and Scott as the rarest. Perhaps a total of a dozen Cass ribbons, of several different styles, survive in the hobby today. The Frent example is an especially desirable large size, 3" x 7.25" printed on pale green silk. Great quotation from Cass below his portrait: "If we are not struck with judicial blindness, we shall cling to this Constitution as the mariner clings to the last plank, when night and the tempest close around him." A few light stains, but very fine overall with great presence. We are selling the Taylor mate in this sale.
